Mensagem por Eri-Chan Dom Mar 29, 2015 3:25 pm

Hi there, I'm quite new to this website and haven't posted to a forum before, so if I've posted to the wrong place or whatnot, please could you tell me? Smile

I was wondering if any members would like to have a chat about the Japanese street style Lolita! What is your favourite Lolita shop, brand or off brand? What sub-style do you like? Is there any particular print that you have your heart set on?

Please discuss! Personally, I dabble in the three main styles of Lolita; Sweet, Classic and Gothic, but I have mainly pink dresses in my wardrobe. Also, my favourite brands are Baby, the Stars Shine Bright and Innocent World! As for prints, I'm pretty much in love with all of them, ahaha.

When I first found Lolita it was kuro style that I liked and wore the most, as all black is easier to find and co-ordinate than pastels! So I do have rather a soft spot for it. Smile To be honest, right now I'm leaning towards the Classic style, as I just love Innocent World clothes! I still have to hunt down a particular dress I like from there, so I'm saving up to go shopping in summer. Very Happy
It's always fun to add Lolita elements to everyday outfits, and I take my Angelic Pretty handbag literally everywhere.

Aww, I don't think anyone can be too old for Lolita. Even when I'm eighty or so, I'd still be in love with the style! I discovered it when I was eleven, although it's only these past few years that I've managed to build a small wardrobe. How old were you when you first got into the style? Smile

I'm not a real lolita, I'm more into vintage fashion. Embarassed  But I fancy up my outfits with lolita accessories. I stumbled upon lolita on accident. I bought a new petticoat on ebay. It was nice quality and I wanted to know if the brand also sold dresses. The petticoat was from Metamorphose.

Vintage fashion is also really cute; I especially love 50s dresses! It's quite hard to find nice vintage things where I live, especially things from before the 70s, although I did once find a super adorable puff-sleeved jacket. Smile  Do you dress in the style of a particular era (e.g. 20s or 40s fashion)?

Mostly 50's to early 60's because I love petticoat dresses. When I feel like it also a bit of late 60's and 40's. I inherited a few dresses and many other items from my grandmother. But most of my dresses are reproductions.

Have you tried off-brand dresses? There are also some rockabilly/reproduction dresses that could fit into lolita.

Of course I don't mind! Anyone can join if they want to.

The same with me; before Lolita I hated going shopping and looking at clothes, but now looking at Lolita clothes is all I want to do! Laughing Baby, the Stars Shine Bright is definitely my favourite brand, as my first dress came from there; I own Lovely Sweet Room in black and just adore it! Smile Masquerade Theatre is also a dream print of mine, and I'd really like it in the red colour way, although navy is really beautiful too. Hopefully some day you'll get your dream dress!

Yup, Japanese brand dresses only come in one size, which is really disappointing for most western girls... I wish they'd do bigger sizes, as they do have quite a lot of non-Asian-build fans. I'm a few sizes too big for the brands, but what I do is either buy something with full or partial shirring, or have it altered at a tailors, just to add a couple of panels in - otherwise I have to compromise on breathing! Laughing
Azure is right about rockabilly and vintage dresses! Some of my Lolita clothes are from Hell Bunny, and they're still really good quality and have nice designs.

I have so far only one lolita dress. Angelic Pretty's Happy Ice Cream JSK in black.
I love lolita style, but I've had kind of mixed feelings about wearing lolita. When I was 12-13, my dream was to buy lolita dresses, but later I though that I don't want to wear it even though it is pretty. And now, when I'm twenty, I went and bought a dress XD And I love it, it's the type of lolita I think I'd like to wear. It feels a bit weird but comfy, I just haven't got used to it. I think I will, and my sister (who loves lolita with passion) will surely help me with petticoats and stuff.

And Hellocon is in May, so I kinda bought the dress for that event XD But of course I'll wear it otherwise as well!

That's an adorable dress!
If I could, I'd wear Lolita every day, although sometimes I just don't have the energy to get all dressed up. It does take getting used to, although you're really lucky to have a sister that likes Lolita! If my sister wore the fashion (and I know she won't because she's quite mainstream in her fashion tastes) I'd be so happy! Very Happy
Enjoy Hellocon! I've never been to a Lolita event, but I'd love to in the future.

I love Lolita style, but don't really have the figure for it. A friend made me a lolita-style dress a few years back, but it was when she was first taking commissions and she did it wrong. (no way are my boobs THAT big LOL) I haven't had the time or money or connections to find someone to fix it for me so I can wear it now, and I've lost a lot of weight (tho still not enough to fit into anything I like *sob*) so it doesn't fit anymore anyway. I like the more Gothic style and have some non-brand stuff that would pass for it, but no chance/opportunity to wear it. People tend to look at you weird when you're my age and dressing up like that. *sighs* (even more so when you have 2 kids, one of them a baby...)

I did once buy some lolita baby clothes way back when, but when it turned out I had a boy (LOL) I gave them away. Now I'm kicking myself cuz my baby daughter LOVES dressing up and I can't find anything like that anymore. I did find a few petticoat dresses, but they were very expensive, even for baby clothes, so she only has 2.

It's hard work finding Lolita clothes when you have a western figure, and that's why I'm learning to sew right now. Such a shame that indie and brand Lolita clothes only cater to one size... Rolling Eyes Hopefully you'll find a way to get a fitting dress soon!
Some people look strangely at me when I wear Lolita (even in a toned-down, casual way), and I'm 16. I usually just ignore them as I'm very good at staring past people like they don't exist, haha. I think you can be any age to enjoy Lolita fashion and you shouldn't care what others think! It's really cute that you dress your child that way; in one of the Gothic Lolita Bibles (I can't remember which one, sorry) I saw some Japanese mothers in Lolita style, and their children in similar clothes. I love lolita style! <3 I knew about it when I was like 17, but I bought my first piece of clothing (a random skirt from Bodyline) when I was 20...  Very Happy
Sadly I've been quite "aside" the scene during all this years, mostly because a couple of reasons: first, I wasn't working and I didn't have a... hmm, "big" budget (xDu) and second, I used to live in a quite small town in middle of nowhere without any other lolita near (well, one, but let's say we weren't made for each other ^^u)

Although, in 4 years I've managed to get some pieces. My "belowed jewels" are the Melody Doll jsk and the Fantastic Dolly op by Angelic Pretty, and the Alice trump op in black by Emily Temple Cute. among other "minor" stuff (I own like 3 skirts and 7 jsk/op in total).

It's a shame when you don't have other Lolitas to be frilly with. I don't know anyone in my town that wears the fashions I like, but I don't let it prevent me from wearing Lolita dresses every so often. I tried to convert sisters and friends, but they're not so keen, haha. Laughing

I first thought I would make a lolita dress for Hellocon, but I'm not much of a sewer, so I thought I'd just buy one Very Happy And then I found the Happy Ice Cream JSK in a good condition and price. And I also got the headband from the same set ^^ And then I heard Maki and Asuka will be there, and it's one more reason to wear AP there Very Happy

Now I only need a cute blouse for it. I have one black I'll wear if I don't find anything else. It has long sleeves however, I'm sure I'm gonna sweat in it in May (unless it's a cold day, you never know, it's Finland's spring afterall). And maybe I'll need some socks, too if I don't wear regular tights. I also wonder what kind of shoes I should wear. I have simple black pumps, and I think they would be decent (my lolita sister also said they're ok), but I'm still not sure... Oh whatever, I still have time.

My friends doesn't like lolita neither ^^u
Last year I lived in Barcelona for a while (the 2nd most important city in Spain and the one that has the biggest lolita scene) and I met some days with the local comm, and also when I moved to Helsinki, so I'm not "alone" anymore... but still I miss having close lolita friends :B it feels just more enjoyable with people! (for me at least hahah)

I will wear plain black tights for the Hellocon. I want to focus the attention on the dress + bonnet (my first time wearing one, will be funny xD) and oh well... the outfit will be just black + white. Keeping things simple x)

Smile

I have one of the GL Bibles and it has some patterns and stuff in it, royalty free (wow). I just wish I could sew, but tho I have a sewing machine, I am terrified of it LOL I don't really know how to use it, so am hoping someone around here will show me how to sew once we get properly settled in our new house. I would love to make my own clothes in general, but would really love to make some Lolita clothes for Fifi (baby). She got a little duffle coat from her grandparents today for Easter (my son was complaining cuz he got a suit *laughs*) and it looks so cute. I got a photo of her in it to send back to them. The GL Bible I have did have an article on Loli mums and tots and it made me want to get some outfits but at the time, I had no idea Fifi would be coming along. (she was a welcome surprise hehehe) I'm just glad she likes dressing up. She's only 18 months but picks out her own clothes, and even has a very good eye for style. Very Happy A potential Loli in the making. hehehe

I just pretend I'm like Momoko from Kamikaze Girls (I'm still waiting for my lovely Ichiko though! haha), although it is a little lonely. Hopefully I'll muster up the courage to join a local comm in England, though I'm not sure there are any in Liverpool...
Bonnets are so lovely! And I always think it's best to keep things simple, perhaps why I like Old school Lolita so much. Smile

There are some tutorials online, although perhaps not so useful for learning the basics with sewing machines. I always look on sewloli on Livejournal for inspiration when I'm feeling the need. Sewing machines are scary at first (I know first hand, haha), but once you're used to them, they work wonders.
It would be so sweet if your daughter grew up to be a Lolita girl! When I have children (if I do), I'd definitely dress them in Classic and Sweet Lolita; twin daughters would be great! Very Happy
