Death Note by Tsugumi Ohba (writer) and Takeshi Obata (illustrator)

synopsis:
The death note is the tool of the shinigami (gods of death). The person whose name is written into the death note dies. One of these death notes is dropped into the human world and is found by a highly intelligent 17 year old, Light Yagami. After discovering the death note's powers, he plans to rid the world of bad people. He starts by killing criminals who are mentioned in the evening news. After numerous mysterious deaths the police believes this to be the work of a serial killer. They team up with quirky detective L and begin to investigate. Being seen as a criminal himself doesn't deter Light from his utopian aim. Slowly the ability to rule life and death spoils the once honest boy and turns him into a megalomaniac. He wants to create a new better world with him, Kira, as the new god.

review:
Death note is an exciting manga with a terrific story. Since I've read it I often wondered what would happen if death notes were real and I would stumble upon one. As I've read this series and know what a death note can do to the human mind, I'd probably burn it as soon as possible. But what would I do if I didn't know the story? What would I do if I were in Light's shoes? Could I resist temptation? Would I try to use it for a good cause like Light did? Would I try it just once out of curiosity? Could this power mess with my mind too?
Though death note deals with a serious topic it also has it's light-hearted moments. Many characters have adorable quirks and habits.

This review is a translation of my original review on goodreads, so the phrasing might sound a bit weird. I rated it 5 stars. But since we don't have stars here I'll give it 5 ribbons

My son loves Death Note. I had the anime (first season) and he kept watching them all the time. (He's 17.) He keeps telling me bits and pieces of it, cuz I've only seen the first few episodes, and he got 1 of the mangas in Dublin a while back, as well as a Death Notebook. (it's really cool actually, but no, it doesn't kill anyone LOL) I haven't seen it for a while, but I'm sure it's around here somewhere...

I really liked Death Note... Just didn't liked the end. ;x
I've tried to watch the anime, but dropped I think at episode 5 or 6.
Anyway, I've bought the Black Edition when they published here in Brazil. It's a really good mangá to keep in a collection. ^^

I think part of the point of it was to show how ppl can start off with good intentions, but it can become corrupt? (or corrupt them, not quite sure how to phrase it) I don't think I'd want that kind of responsibility, personally.

I did like Death Note a lot, specially because the art. I mean, the plot is great, but I love the style of Takeshi Obata.

I have to say that for me... well, for me it should have ended earlier.

But yeah, Death Note is still one of my favourite series. And I have to say I know lots of people that doesn't like/are not into manga/anime but they enjoyed this one a lot.

I recomend to read: Kigurumi Guardians
You will fall in love into the guardians, they protect this world from the evil invaders of a different dimension, but... The Kigurumi suited creatures have suddenly transformed into gorgeous males!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
